Discovering Your Life Purpose: Unlocking Your True Identity

Have you ever found yourself questioning the meaning of life, wondering if it’s worth living, or seeking your purpose on earth? These existential questions can evoke mixed emotions – excitement, fear, motivation, and depression. The key lies in how we approach these sensitive topics.

Uncovering Life Purpose

Life’s purpose is not something external; it’s intrinsic. It’s the essence of who you are – your values, passions, and strengths. Self-discovery is the journey to uncovering your true identity and exploring what makes you unique.

The Misconception

Many people mistakenly seek purpose outside themselves, looking to their environment or others for direction. However, your life purpose resides within. You are your life purpose.

The Purpose Paradox

Our purposes are not solely for personal fulfilment but for the benefit of others. Serving others with your unique gifts and talents brings joy and satisfaction.

The Misconception Between Purpose and Passion

Most people tend to miss out on the fact that purpose and passion are two different things, yet interconnected to some degree. People try to find their purpose in their passion, seeking to find what they are most passionate about.

This can be frustrating because while passion is usually temporal and can be cultivated, it is most affected by other external factors.

Our purpose isn’t found in the area where we are most passionate about, but passion can be cultivated after finding your purpose. Most people can be very passionate about something today, and in the next few weeks or months, the passion automatically dies down.

“Purpose and passion differ. Passion is temporal and external (needs to be fueled constantly to keep the fire burning), while purpose is internal and doesn’t need any catalyst once ignited or found.”

The 2 Types of Passion

There are two types of passion, which we will dive into more detail in our next article:

Borrowed Passion: This is a passion influenced by external factors such as friends, colleagues, family, media, environment, etc.

Birthed Passion: This passion is cultivated from a place of divine purpose.

The purpose is found from within – turning pain into purpose and meaning.
