MY STORY
My Journey to Purpose Discovery:
Lessons Learned and Insights Gained
Welcome once again to Sound-Minded Life Coaching. It is an honour to be a part of your journey towards personal development and spiritual growth.
I am honoured to share my journey of purpose discovery with you. I hope and pray that, as you read my story till the end, you will be inspired and gain valuable tools, strategies and insights to guard you on your path to growth and self-discovery.
As a life coach, I’ve come to realise that humility is one of the most important attributes of every uncommon achiever. Humility allows you to identify areas in your life where you need help (acknowledge your weaknesses) and also take necessary actions by seeking the appropriate help.
On the other hand, Pride is a catalyst for failure because it prevents us from seeking the help we need and, therefore, prevents our growth and progress.
Life was never meant for us to do it all by ourselves but to succeed with the help of others.
Growing up as a teenager, I was driven by a passion to help others. Initially, I thought becoming a medical doctor was the perfect way to fulfil this desire. But this was more complicated than I could have imagined.
Little did I know that there was an underlying weakness in me, which I did not pay any attention to as of then.
I kept stretching my imagination towards the future, and I could see myself helping patients in the hospital, which in turn boosted my passion to be a medical doctor.
Follow me as we reveal what this great weakness was…
Time passed by, and I was done with primary (grade) school.
While in high school, my journey got even more exciting as we were working in some of our science laboratories while putting on a lab coat.
I felt motivated, and my passion kept increasing due to my positive imagination.
Not long after, when a tragic situation happened right in my presence, I discovered a significant weakness — my emotional sensitivity, which could greatly affect my working with patients in a hospital. This realisation, combined with the lengthy education required to become a doctor, led me to reevaluate my career path.
My imagination switched to negativity, and I started losing my passion for doctoring, although I was still very much interested in helping others, I just didn’t feel medicine was the right path.
During this time, I developed a new passion for music influenced by my environment and the people around me. It also felt exciting because I wanted to help others by comforting their soul with good music.
By stretching my imagination with positive thinking, I kept developing more passion for music. However, after a year of pursuing music, I realised that the industry was highly competitive and it needed more than just a talent and a passion.
I also realised there was an underlying weakness — the fear of public speaking. This fear of singing in front of crowds held me back.
While still pursuing my music career, I met Jesus and received salvation by accepting Him as my personal Lord and Savior. Then, a true purpose was born after discovering my true identity in Him.
The passion for helping others was still in me, but I needed to unlock my true purpose.
The pain of watching my generation wonder in struggles and confusion was what birthed my true purpose—helping others through spiritual growth and personal development (goal setting, finding purpose in life, enhancing relationships, happiness, overcoming addiction and fear of failure, finding purpose and meaning in pain, etc.).
This newfound purpose perfectly aligned with my values and ignited a passion within me that has only continued to grow.
Pursuing my purpose as a professional life coach wasn’t easy; I certainly had challenges to overcome and weaknesses to strengthen, like public speaking, which I am committed to continuously working on.
Nothing is more exciting in life than living a life of true purpose, which brings a feeling of inner peace and fulfilment.
Finding true purpose in life may require time and patience, but what is more important is putting in intentional effort and being humble enough to seek help wherever necessary.
The saying goes, “Experience is the best teacher in life,” but I say, “Why not take advantage of learning from the experience and wisdom of others?” This will prevent you from making the mistakes of others, which can be time-consuming.
You certainly do not have all the time in the world, as there are millions of destinies out there awaiting your true purpose to be born.
Romans 8:18-19 makes us understand that suffering or pain births true purpose, and creation is at the mercy of the revelation of our true purpose.
Intentional effort and commitment to seeking help where necessary are all you need for your purpose discovery while putting God first place in your life.
Lessons Learned and Insights Gained.
Fulfilling your life purpose requires overcoming weaknesses: Most people think their life purpose is tied to a gift from God, and as a result, it is something they have to be completely perfect at. I saw emotional sensitivity and public speaking as weaknesses, but I had to work on overcoming the fear of public speaking and using emotional sensitivity to build empathy as a strength in my life coaching journey.
Overcoming challenges is an essential part of fulfilling your purpose: Life is a gift, but many think you do not necessarily have to overcome challenges to fulfil what God has called you to do. They frequently use this common phrase: “What will be will be”. Overcoming obstacles is all part of the process as they help in building strength, resilience, character, patience, kindness, etc.
Embrace obstacles as opportunities for growth and development.
Pain and struggles can be catalysts for purpose discovery: There is always an underlying purpose and meaning in pain. Embracing pain as a gift, like I often say, will lead you towards purpose discovery and cultivating a passion for your purpose. Dig your well of blessing in the pain point area in your life.
There are two types of passion — born passion and borrowed passion. Born passion is tied to your life purpose, while borrowed passion is cultivated or influenced by your environment or people around you. My passion for music was a borrowed passion from my environment. It is important to note that borrowed passion sometimes cannot withstand the test of time and challenges, but the opposite is true for a birthed passion. Always make sure your purpose and passion are tied to your values through self-reflection.
Discover your purpose before cultivating a passion to fuel that purpose: Many people make the mistake of thinking whatever they are passionate about is automatically their purpose. However, they tend to feel frustrated when the passion is short-lived or affected by external factors like time and challenges.
Therefore, avoid mistaking passion for purpose. Instead, focus on uncovering your purpose and then cultivating a passion that fuels it.
Congratulations if you have been able to read until this end, it truly reflects your willingness to grow, unlock, and fulfil your purpose.
